Summary: Since the Industrial Revolution started in the XVII century, the emission of greenhouse gases, especially CO2, has increased significantly. In this work, the optimization of a system composed of main and secondary steel and concrete mixed beams and steel pillars was carried out. For the optimization routine, the genetic algorithm and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) were used. For the comparison between the algorithms, three numerical examples taken from works previously published in the literature were modeled. In addition to the numerical examples, a convergence test was modeled in order to verify the confidence of the examples. The results showed a better adaptation of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) compared to the results obtained by the genetic algorithm.
