Summary: OLIVEIRA , Julia Delboni. MECHANICAL AND RHEOLOGYCAL PROPERTIES ANALYSIS OF CEMENT MATRICES WITH ADDITION OF ORNAMENTAL STONE WASTE AFTER THERMAL TREATMENT . 2017. Dissertation (Master in Civil Engineering) Graduate Program in Civil Engineering, Federal University of Espírito Santo, Vitória, 2017. Brazil is prominent in the production of ornamental stones worldwide, and Espírito Santo stands out as one of the main producing states. However the process of beneficiation of this sector is great generator of waste, mainly the abrasive mud. Several researches have been done using the residue in cementitious matrices as inert material with filler effect with the intention of incorporating it to the civil construction. However, despite the good results already found the waste has not yet been incorporated as civil construction material. In order to improve the characteristics of the residue, a thermal treatment (melting at 1200ºC) was carried out in order to transform the material into pozzolana. The ornamental stone waste after thermal treatment (RBROTT) was submitted to characterization tests mainly to determine the index of pozzolanic activity. Cement pastes and mortar containing 0%, 10%, 15% and 20% of RBROTT addition were produced in three a/c ratios (0.45, 0.55 and 0.65) and the mortars in the hardened state were tested at 3 ages (28, 63 and 91 days). In order to evaluate the influence of the addition on the rheological behavior of the cement pastes, flow and strain sweep tests were performed and the yield stress, viscosity and complex modulus were analyzed. In the mortars were made tests of consistency (flow table tests) and specific mass in the fresh state and axial compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity in the hardened state. The RBROTT presented results that met the criteria of the standard and, therefore, can be considered a pozzolanic material. The cement pastes with addition of RBROTT presented a significant increase in the yield stress and viscosity, as well as the mortars had a significant increase in the axial compressive strength.
